I picked my son up a Cva optima last night and have a box of xtp's in the safe from when I got my savage. My question is how do they perform on deer at speeds pushed by 2 50gn pyrodex pellets? Thanks

I shoot the xtp's and have never had a problem with them. I have one that I found in a deer from a front facing shot that mushroomed as pretty as you could ask for.

they will work fine and kill efficiently
i just dont care to use a "pistol" bullet in a ml for long range shots for 100 yds or less as long as accuracy is there they are good to go

i shot the same bullet the past 3 years. it shot pretty good from my optima with 777 but 100yds it started to open up pretty good.
I shot 2 nice 8pts with them at under 50yds and they folded like a cheap suit.
I did however switch bullets and powder this year because i just could not get a lot of consistency out of the combination in my gun.

x2 I saw a good friend lose a nice buck in Kentucky 2 weeks ago because of these bullets. Dont shoot at anything past 100 yds. he shot a nice buck @ 170 yds high shoulder hit, bullet did not pass through entrance hole plugged with bone or something so no bleeding. 2 holes are better than 1.

I've had problems with pass throughs on the 250's and moved to 300's with better results.

Use the XTP 250 for anything closer than 125 and also use them for practice. They should be within 1 inch of where the SSTs will be hitting. Great cheap bullet.

We think alike, in the back yard get the scope sighted in with the xtp's now

I shoot 240 grain XTP's out of my encore and have never had a problem. Shot them in a Knight T5 Woodsman for years before that with no issue. I love 'em. Definitely don't get the 180 or 185 grains as they don't pass through.
