Usually 3x or 4x. But I'll turn it up when hunting a field.

Fields= 10x that's required for the Boone&Crockett reticle. Woods= 4x for a wide field of view.

My MZ scope I leave on 3, you never know when will show up real close My 300 RUM, I leave on 5 until I need something more. My 204, I like to keep on 28 for Prairie Dogs My 22-250 Ackly, I keep it on around 38 or 40 when I take the shot

Most of my scopes are 2-7 so I set it at 2 and the others are 3-9 and I set them on 3. I only recall once having to raise the power to get a shot, but my grandaughter missed an opportunity at a deer last year because she left the scope set on 7 (after target practice) and a deer stepped out at 5 yards from the base of the tree.
Now we do almost all of our practice with teh scope set at lowest setting, except when we do the traditional shots at the 300 yard steel gong at the end of the shooting session.
