Will this be a good enough setup to hunt 300 yards?

Remington 700 ADL 7mm Remington Mag Bolt-Action
Leupold VX-2 3-9x40 CDS Duplex

What load and scope mounts would you use for deer at this distance? This shouldn't cost over $800.

the only limitation will be the shooter,I wont be using anything but Burris Signature Zee rings from now on,and am switching all my older rifles to them as I have funds to do so.

I would start with 150 gr Sierra Game Kings and IMR4831

You will be setup well for 300 yard shots. Fusion ammo in the 150 grain variety shoots extremely well for my friends 7mag. Relatively cheap a box, $35, if you don't handload.

I handload all my 7MM mag ammo. Rem. Mdl. 700 SS BDL. Leupold VX3 3.5X10X50 with Leupold rings and bases. My favorite load is a 139 gr. Hornady BTSP it shoots around 3300FPS through my chrony. Two inches high at 100, 250 yd zero and three inches low at 300. PM me if you want the powder and charge weight.[if you handload] Like mr.big stated the only limiting factor is the shooter.
I've shot deer out past 250 yds with this combo and it performed great.

Thanks, I don't handload. Mostly because I don't have the equipment.

The only reason I want the 7mag is I'm not a big fan of my semi-auto 30-06, it jams 1 out of 10 shots. I usually use a 30-30 but last year I made the mistake of carrying it to a spot with a 300 yard shot. Of course as lucky as I am the only B&C buck I've seen (and probably the only one I will ever see in TN) stepped out in the farthest part of the kudzu patch.

Not a fan of a semi auto either.
I know what you mean about not having the right equipment at the right time. I also missed an opportunity many years ago at a great buck. I had enough rifle, but at the time had a cheap scope. The buck stepped out about 200 yds away in a cut soy bean field right at the end of shooting light. I could see him fine with the naked eye and through my binocs but couldn't see anything through the scope. Frustrating to say the least!!
I changed that the next year when I put the 3X9X50 scope on my rifle.
Good luck to ya on your next encounter!!

Thanks, the buck is still alive so maybe I will relive it with a better outcome! (a buddy saw him seen last week)

The nosler ballistic tip is the best hunting bullet in my opinion!

Never tried the 120 BT in my 7mag, I do use then in my 7-08 and they have always done great. Just so happens I have a new box of 120 BT's on the shelf. I may just have to load a couple of rounds and see how they shoot in the Mag. ;\)
