I do a lot of hog hunting with a .22 mag so it should be fine on a coyote within 100 yards.

Ohhhh. You must have never seen a shotgun with a nice load of dead coyote and a good choke tube!!! It will do more damage @70 yards in than that mag will do.
I think the next long gun I buy will be a 3.5" 12 gauge so that I can set it up with a hevi-shot choke tube and dead coyote shells. It's secondary purpose would be for turkeys.
