I am going to Iowa the first weekend of December for their first gun season. What are the laws about bringing a deer back into the state for a TN taxidermist to do? (Assuming I get lucky? \:D )

Thanks

with all the EHD goin on, i havent heard anything about Iowa, but It must be free of bones before being processed in Tn and the deer must be caped out (head skined out) and the antler plate must clean of any brain matter tissues ect.... scn would be able to correct it if i got anything wrong or left something out. good luck

I could be wrong being I'm not TWRA; but I dont think from Iowa you have to do all that. Kill it and bring it back with proper tagging.

David Co. in Iowa is the only cwd restricted area for TWRA. If you are not hunting in that county, then there are no TWRA restrictions on how you transport the deer into TN.

However, with that being said, you also need to research the transportation restrictions for the states you will be traveling through. As an example, TN restricts deer from the northern part of IL. A hunter in southern IL has no TWRA CWD restrictions for bring the animal in. But, KY lists the whole state of IL as a CWD zone, and any animals coming into KY from IL must be properly prepared. So, any hunter that drives back through KY has to prepare all IL deer so that they meet the KY requirements.

There are certian counties in certian states were you do have to do that. the carcass can't cross state lines thats head included. I don't know which states it is exactly but i know Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri are 3 of them that have partial bans. But Wisc,Colorado, Montana,Kansas,Oklahoma,Nebraska, New York, Utah, Minnasota, and 2 Canadian Provences were all carcass must be removed before crossing state lines. I thinks there is a couple more but cant remember which states they are.

You have no TWRA regulations that affect your transport. I would suggest going to the KY and IL websites to see what restrictions they may have on CWD transport in case they list the whole state of Iowa. I wouldn't want to advise you on their regulations and get something wrong.

If you're coming through St. Louis, stay on I-55 south and you can cross from Missouri directly into TN. Elimininates the IL and KY portion of the trip, and is almost as fast as coming down I-24 for anyone in middle TN.

You will need to check on MO regs, though.
