I am a bit confused on the fishing for the national forest. I copied and pasted from the .gov site and does it mean no treble hooks at all? The wife and I are going next week to Gatlinburg and she has to work the first few days so I am looking at going fishing for smallies at the west part of the little river and possibly Metcalf Bottoms so far and possibly Douglas lake if I can find a decent place to fish off the bank which I have been looking around inspiration point off hwy 92. Any help would be appreciated, I sure dont want to get hassled for something I'm not even fishing with and just because it is in the tackle box. Thanks in advance, Scott

Lures, Bait, and Equipment
Fishing is permitted only by the use of one hand-held rod.
Only artificial flies or lures with a single hook may be used. Dropper flies may be used. Up to two flies on a leader.
Use or possession of any form of fish bait or liquid scent other than artificial flies or lures on or along any park stream while in possession of fishing tackle is prohibited. Prohibited baits include, but are not limited to, minnows (live or preserved), worms, corn, cheese, bread, salmon eggs, pork rinds, liquid scents and natural baits found along streams.
Use or possession of double, treble, or gang hooks is prohibited.
Fishing tackle and equipment, including creels and fish in possession, are subject to inspection by authorized personnel.

Within the park boundaries you cannot use anything other than a single hook. No treble hooks at all! Outside the park the regulations are different.

anyone have any hints on what baits to use in the smoky's(colors, style, etc.)? I have made me a few inline spinners with single hooks to put some power baits on and have plenty of choices of large grubs in different colors and have a few small jigs I figure on trying. I have decided to go after smallies pretty much the whole time in the rivers since the front went thru unless the weather messes me up to much and then I got the crappie pole also.

I would try a beetle spin or small crawfish jig.

Thanks Greenhead, I have the jigs in fall colors but I have never seen the beetle spinners.

What are you wanting to catch from Douglas? Although it has some smallmouth very few are caught by bank fishermen. Crappie are deeper right now. Trollers and tightliners are catching them though.

I was going to take my kayak and fish douglas but I dont know what I would do with it once I got there so am leaving it and fish creeks and rivers.

Your best bet for bank fishing would probably be Indian Creek area, Swann's Bridge, or Walter's Bridge. The Cocke Co side of Walter's Bridge has better access than the White Pine side at this time.

National Park is the GSMNP
National Forest is Norht and South Cherokee-Citico and Tellico
In the National PARK you can only use single hook, artificial bait
In the Nationl Forest-any legal bait like power bait, corn or rooster tail with treb hooks
