I know they're TNDeer sponsors, but Turk's Sports Shop won't work on anything but what they sell. They sell Parker and Excalibur.
I called them today to ask if they'd change the string and cables for my Barnett, and the fella told me all they worked on was the brands they sold.

That's absolutely fine, I understand that thinking, but on the TNDeer "Turk's Sports Shop" Sponsor page, it states "We Service all brands of bows".

Not trying to be an A-hole, just saying they might want to change the ad.

By the way, the good folks at Choo Choo Archery just down the road don't have the same "requirements", and are only too happy to help a man out.

It's not really that bad, this is a dang good guy I'm talking about. I'm just disappointed that he evidently won't mess with anything unless it's sold in his store.

I went by his place two years ago to buy a crossbow from him, well I didn't because I didn't like his service...

In defence of Turk , he probably knew that until recently Barnett had been "out of business" while the company was being restructured and sold . Parts were not avaliable for repairs and the warranty dept. was shutdown . They have only in the last 2 wks. or so been catching up on their backlog . BUT,the real bottom line is that any business has the right to refuse repair service for any reason . Try takin your bow to one of the "bigbox" stores in the area and having service done . They wont touch it either .

That won't fly either, I already had a new string and cables, and told him as much.
"Bigbox" stores--scru'em, they don't get my sportin' goods bidness.

My preferred method is to research the crap out of whatever I'm about to drop a load of money on, then go buy it from a Mom'n'Pop if possible, or order from Cabela's if necessary.

Funny thing, Choo-Choo Arcery didn't have the same qualms. They've always came through for me, guess I'll just stick with the old faithful.
No problem, it all worked out.

Just telling folks to not bother with Turk's unless they bought their bow there.

I don't know anything about your situation with Terry but I know for a fact that he is constantly working on bows that people purchased somewhere else. He also works on brands that he doesn't carry. I have known Terry for years and am frequently in his shop, so I am going on personal observations. He has also been known to, on numerous occasions, to open the shop after business hours to help hunters with equipment problems. Maybe he was just having a bad day, which we all have from time to time.

Choo-Choo Archery has bad days too, trust me, so does Legends in Athens and Big Daddys in Alabama. Everyone can have a bad day.

Terry is a grump from time to time. But he is one of the best bowyers around. He really knows his stuff. Maybe he didn't like you.

He has worked on my Whisper Creek bows, (which he does not sell) and my friends Mathews (which he does not sell). In fact, I can think of several times he has worked on other bows for people. I am pretty sure you must have agitated him.

Well, let's just get to the bottom of this right now.Turk just happens to be my dad and I bet if you walked in his shop tomorrow you would see several brands of bows there to be worked on.So that just blows the "only service what I sell" story right out of the water.I have talked to him about this and he doesn't recall telling anybody he only services what he sells.More than once he has been called at home about a broken down bow,and went and reopened to get the people taken care of,so customer service is at the top of his list. It's a sad day when a man working six and seven days a week can't make a living without somebody trying to bring him down.Especially somebody who doesn't have the correct facts.

Thanks Nanner. I have never had any problem there. In my earlier post, I talked about my old Golden Eagle. Here's the rest of the story...

That day, I walked in with a pocket full of money to buy a brand new Parker. I thought the old bow I had was less than I needed. Plus, I wanted a new, fast bow with a brand name (I was a beginner). He took one look at my bow and asked me what was wrong with it. I said nothing but the serving. He asked if I could shoot it well. I said yes. He then asked me why I wanted to buy a new bow. I said I dont know. He fixed up my old bow in a day or so and wished me good luck with it when I left. I killed my first 8 pointer with that bow a couple of months later.

Moral of the story, He charged me $55.00 to fix my bow instead of selling me a new one for $600.00+.

That, my friends, is what you call good service.

Nannerhead, tell your Dad thanks from ole strut. He definitely wont remember me, but I'll remember him for his honesty.

Naw, he was just short and to the point. It was a phone call, not in person, and to be honest, I don't know the man's name I spoke to.
Please, re-read my posts. Not a personal attack, just stating FACT.
Please keep it from getting personal, guys. I've said he seems like a nice guy, hell, I've been in his store couple dozen times, bought some 22" bolts from him awhile back, Sims limbsavers, some other stuff, no problem with his business or his attitude.

All I know, all I have posted, is that whomever I spoke to on the phone was very hesitant when I spoke to them, and told me that he couldn't do the job. When I asked him why, he asked me where I bought it. I told him I bought it from and individual, and he said, "sorry, but we can't do that."
I asked him, why not, you mean you can't do a simple cable/string change, even when I have the new cables and string, and all he said was "no."

Not trying to run anybody down, but i talked to somebody on the phone, and that is the gist of the conversation. Neither he nor I was in the least bit argumentative or snappy or anything else. It's his business, he can do anything he wants to, I respect that.

And I will go there again when I have any equipment needs.

some of you guys need to lighten up some.

Lighten up, I am NOT trying to run anyone down, least of all a local small businessman.
I told the truth, and like I have said before, he can do whatever he wants to, it's his business, and I respect that.

All I know is that whoever I spoke to on the phone asked me where I got the X-bow, and when I told him I'd bought it from and individual, it was then that he told me he couldn't work on it, even though I told him I had new factory cables and string.

Ain't going to get into a pissing contest here.
