I am seeing more squirrels than deer this year--can I bring my air rifle and shoot squirrels from my ground blind while I crossbow hunt for deer?

You probably need to contact your local officer. There are a couple of ways that could be interpreted. It's on the list to make clear one way or another for next year.

So it depends on who you ask...that's interesting.

It is subject to interpretation due to some regulations that conflict. We'll try to clean it up before next year.

It sounds with that much ambiguity in the law, it would be difficult to uphold any kind of conviction. Thanks, I'll contact my local agent, but I have leases in three counties so one could say OK in one county and another say no in a different county.

You may be correct that the conflicting regulations would lead to difficulties in prosecution and upholding. My answer was an attempt to potentially keep you from having to go to court by running it by the officer tht would be issuing the citation.
We had already been made aware of this question this fall, and it was already on the list to clarify one way or another in next years proclamation. In the meantime....

If TWRA cleans it up next year...make it "with a shot gun only"...Remember, we deer hunters are still in the woods and a .22 cal. travels how far? JMO

It is already open to small game hunting throughout archery season. I don't see that changing.
The question to be clarified is whether or not someone that is archery hunting can also squirrel hunt with an air rifle.

I have come this ->.<- close to bringing my air rifle while deer hunting because those darn squirrels drive me nuts (no pun intended) and I won't waste an arrow on one. don't want to get in trouble for it though. I would only bring the air rifle as I don't want to make any more noise than that. Hope the law is cleared up for next year. For now I will just bear those squirrels barking back and forth.

You could just take some blunt tips for small game and bust them with your bow...Why would you need an air rifle?

That may fall into the field point category...maybe?

A slingshot might be ok but to be honest any movement/noise may ruin a chance at a deer.Thats the only reason i have stayed away from 1.

Bouncing ball bearings off squirrels is fun, noisy though.I can squirrel hunt after deer season is over,Talk about loud, slap a 1/2" ball bearing off a frozen branch & the noise travels forever lol

I disagree with this. I rarely hunt anything but deer, but we deer hunters do not have a monopoly on the woods. A small game hunter has the same safety obligation that we do, and there can be other people in the woods anytime, not just during deer season.

seems clear to me - if you have the resident small game hunt/fish, and your archery license, it shouldn't matter which one you choose to exercise.
But I'm thinking that because I think the resident small game hunt/fish covers the squirrel hunting.
Right?
