Anyone ever taste them or grown them. They taste like nothing I have ever had before. No need to put anything on them and I dont like the taste of a regular sweet potato.
Thanks Ron

Do you know the specific variety?
I've been looking for some good sweet taters for years. My grandmother used to grow the best. They were small, but a deep dark orange and sweet. Nothing like them baked straight from the oven. A little butter was all you needed. She sprouted them every year from the previous year's crop. Unfortunately they're gone now and I've not been able to find any like them since. All varieties now are prety much a flavorless mass.

Not sure on the variety, we pick em up at the store. All I can say is you dont need anything on them and I usually put butter on my regular potato.

Hard to say because there are hundreds and hundreds of varieties. I always order several different varieties of slips from the Sandhill Preservation Center. I just harvested my potatoes a few weeks ago, and they are pretty awesome. Take a look at the catalog of different varieties of sweet potatoes you can get...

I would search through all the varieties of white sweet potatoes via google searches. Find one that seems to be popular or trending among growers and especially one that produces a lot, since you buy them in the store, they are probably a heavy producing and reliable variety for marketing. you might find one just like or very similar to the ones in the store.
Or, to make it simpler, you can buy the white ones from the store, keep them in storage over the winter, and let them sprout and plant the slips next spring.

I planted a few sprouts from Japanese sweet potatoes left in water last year. It was fun, but they didn't taste as good as their parents. Go figure.
