shad, rooster livers, shrimp..bluegill..chicken breast.. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't using game fish for bait illegal? I use little minnows or other live bait fish. Yellow cats love the live bait! Turkey livers work good but sometimes come off easy, this can be remedied with a little pantyhose. Worms work sometimes. It just depends on what they feel like eating. Good luck. I think your wrong.. A licensed sport angler (with all required licenses, and permits) can harvest game fish (including rainbow trout and sunfish) for use as bait from the wild using legal sport fishing methods. When harvesting game fish, all restrictions in the sport fishing proclamation apply (including creel and length limits, seasons, and license requirements).
Pressfit is correct.

Ivory soap cut into cubes work good on a trotline too.

Common carp and buffalo will catch all the catfish you will ever want. Use small pieces, your trying to catch them, not feed them! Caught several big flatheads on the 2lb blues that eat the bait. Hook don't matter on those, spines on small cats will hold'em just fine till you get there.

Personally I prefer smaller 2-6 lb cats to eat,I live on Old Hickory Lake and eat the smaller channels, thats why I posted to use the smaller baits and hooks,it just makes sense to me to utilize the smaller more plentiful fish than to kill the brood fish of any species, and believe me,Ive had my opportunities having lived 44 years lakeside.A 10-15 lb blue or flat is a good fish to eat but Im letting it go unless Im out of crappie, which aint likely.

Then the law has changed since two years ago or Twra officers make their own laws, then I was told by a 20 yr vet the year before he retired that it was illegal, I got a warning ticket for useing panty hose on the river. His explaination was when the fish swallows the bait the hose could get caught up in his throught and kill the fish. Then agian i have also been told by Twra that i had to were my Hunter orange while goin up and down the river from my hunting spot. which is a source of transportation, now if someone shoots me in my boat its no accident. Im not argueing or anything but it seems as if some guys make their own laws as they go. You cant use panty hose on livers legaly, If a fish hits the bait and you lose him, he's good as dead. Go down to the bait shop and buy the biggest minnows they have, keep them alive. Could you point me towards the regulation that makes the pantyhose part illegal?
