Ok so I have been on the verge of buying a new Reconyx camera and I was just wondering what the guys who own one think about theirs?

In the past, Reconyx was state of the art, and one of the only cameras you could rely on to work flawlessly for years. But they have certainly had some problems with the new Hyperfire series. I have several of the old RC60 black-flash units and love them. But I'm not sure I would pay the price for a Hyperfire, considering I could buy 3 of another brand with about the same chances of getting a bad unit.

That surprises me Bryan. I have a Hyperfire and that thing works phenomenal. Anything negative dealing with Reconyx has been almost unheard of, at least in my ears. I have the RC60 as well. Never had a complaint with either one. One thing I love about the Hyperfire is the AA lithium batteries. I bet that thing has taken 20000 pictures since August of 2011 and it just now hit 84 percent battery. I love both, though with most all brands, I guess I just picked up a lucky one \:\)

I have owned a HC600 for three years now. It has performed flawlessly thus far. If it ever were to have a hiccup, I have the utmost confidence Reconyx will make it right.

I know of users that had to replace 5 of 6 Hyperfires in the first season of use. It's at the point where I simply can't recommend any particular camera brand. No one has a corner on quality control or highly reliable electronics. A potential buyer can either buy a really cheap cam that takes so-so quality pictures and has minimal options, and then hope they get a good one, or they can buy a more expensive camera with more options and takes better pictures, and then also hope they get a good one. The one thing I believe I can say about the more expensive cameras (besides their better technology) is that a buyer's odds are probably quite a bit better of getting a good one, yet it seems all brands and models experience unacceptably high failure rates (in my opinion).

In addition, manufacturers can experience dramatic turn-arounds in quality in just a single year by changing builders, production lines, or internal component suppliers. I remember when Bushnell cameras were absolute crap. Now I highly recommend them. Moultrie was also total crap with non-existant customer service, yet this year's models are getting rave reviews. It seems buying trail-cameras has become a real crap-shoot.

Now that I will agree with. I just had my oldest Reconyx RC60 (one of the first RC60s made--6 years old and WAY out of warranty) experience one of the few known problems with this model--the daytime lens getting blurry (the Reconyx cams use two lenses, one for daytime and one for nightime pictures). I called their customer service and they asked me to send it to them. I just got it back with the problem fixed, all firmware updated to the most current versions, and including a Reconyx hat, all free of charge. On a 6 year-old cam. THAT is customer service!
