I never clean my rifle barrel. Just run an oily patch then a dry one after season. Shoot a box of shells through your gun. Let it cool down for 30minswhatever then fire 3 shots and watch your group stay tight. Then take it home clean the bore all nice and shiny and the next time your at the range record your cold bore shot and the following 2 bet you'll end up shooting another full box before you get back to that group you were wanting. My advise is buy you some bloomers cotton patches and a can of rem oil. Shoot it run a wet patch follow with a dry. Wipe your finger prints off and lock it up. That's just my 2 cents. Fouling is my friend.

They're good for field use, but I still prefer a good cleaning rod at home. Just my opinion.

My Son managed to stumble and stick the barrel into about 2 inches of dirt and that pretty much ended hunting as we had to return to vehicle where I had a cleaning kit. If for no other reason that is why the kit is good to have with you.
