Me and a friend is thinking about packing the rest of our freezer after deer season with squirrel and rabbit.
I heard a long time ago that squirrels catch some kind of disease after a certain time of the year and are no longer good to eat.
Is this true or a wise tale?

What you are thinking about is called " wolves" hunt them after a frost and you dont have to worry about them..

I have never had any problem with squirrels but rabbits need to taken after the first good frost, or they could have what is call rabbit feaver or at least that is what I was always told.

I've never heard of it, some squirrels will have what we call wolves in them as PRESSFIT said, they look like a huge maggot under the skin & may be sevral in one squirrel, buy have never heard of any type of disease.

my grandpa laughs at me throwing the heads away and said brains are the best part of the squirrel. I told him that I'll just have to take his word on it!
