Muzzleloader primers will not reliable ignite BH209. Mag primers are what you need. CCI magnum, Federal 209M, Remington STS.
The Remington is not designated mag, but many use them with BH209.
With the shim, you might get away using standard primers but not MZL primers.

MZL primer is a very cool temp primer, so no, its a no no primer for BH209.
You can use the factory plug but the BH209 plug is a lot better.

I no nothing about bh209 but i can tell you that federal 209a primers are as hot as you can get. ( thats a good thing with smokeless and bh209 )

Get the magnum primers and it may solve your issue. You shouldn't use those with BH anyways.
I ha a ton of blowback using the old 777 primers and when I used the CCIM primers it was as clean as a whistle and I didn't even adjust anything.

The CCI Mags are a little larger in diameter, they seem to do a better job of sealing off blowback. That's been my experience anyway.

I've used the Remington STS primers in my Encore with Blackhorn 209 for 3 years now and I've never had a misfire.

you may be able to get away with it HOWEVER a 100 pack is literally $5 so why not get the ones that are suggested to use?

I'm confident that most any of the name brand shotgun primers will ignite the Blackhorn 209. Just don't get the ones marketed specifically for inline muzzleloaders.
