Dad shot one with a 338 a few years ago. Damage was way less than my 300 WM but it was DRT.

I thought 338 would blow it up?

My dad shot 2 with a .338 last season and they didn't have any more damage than from the .270.

With the right controlled expansion bullet, it won't make anymore of a mess than anything else. It does put out a lot more force on the butt end though.

I saw a guy many years ago shoot a small buck square in the azz with one, the bullet exited through the front chest area, innards were kinda like jello

I have killed dozens of deer with a 338wm over the years.... Always used Barnes TSX bullets and never lost oa deer or had lots of damaged meat... I would not use Blastics tips on one but hey... partions, TSX, etc... good to go.
Load some TSX's up over the max load of od RL-19....
