Ok I'm sighting in my CVA wolf with a new scope on it. I want to get ya'lls ideas on how to sight one in. Do you clean after every shot or do you fire two ,three or four and then clean.I've read on here about some peoples guns shooting better with fouled barrels.Next question is on the range ,what do yall clean with,a patch, wire brush or what. This is not my first time sighting one in but want to see if there is a better way and get new ideas.

Sight it in in the condition you will hunt. e.g. Clean barrel if you will hunt with a clean barrel. Dirty if you are going to hunt with a dirty gun all season. I clean after every shot with a saturated cleaning patch follwed by dry patches. This closely approximates the condition of the barrel on the first shot on a hunt.

I guess it depends on what powder you are using and how you want to hunt with it. When I was using 777 I had my gun zeroed with a dirty barrel because I didn't want to clean between shots when it's cold, windy or snowing. Using Blackhorn since it came out and I can shoot 15 times without needing to clean and it loads and shoots the same each time.

Using Pyro, I'd clean after every 3rd shot, but still swab the barrel between each shot with a wet patch.

I agree with DA. I sighted my wolf in with 3 shot sessions. Took it home and cleaned it. I sight it in for the first shot clean barrel and know what it does with the second and third shot. Which is about a 2" group. Then I always go to the woods with a clean barrel and don't worry about swabbing in between. If I have to shoot more than three times in the woods its either a bad day or really bad day...

I clean after every shote, The first at a deer is from a clean barrel and it is the most important one. Leaving the barrel dirty seems to me is not good for it.

When sighting a mzl in, I swab and let the barrel cool down in between shots. I try to simulate as close as I can to a clean barrel which will be my first shot. If my mzl won't pattern out of a clean barrel, then it will find a new home. After getting it sighted in with the clean barrel, I will then shoot it from a fouled barrel to make sure that nothing changes. If so, then I am good to go as there is no swabbing in the woods.
So basically, mine better shoot from a clean and fouled barrel or something will be changing.
