this is the stand I built not long after bow season opened and have so far killed 2 does from. Used scrap wood and 3.5" galvanized nails. Treated wood with a little thompson's water seal and some spray paint for camo. Of course I will keep an eye on all the nails to make sure they are secure and make sure the stand feels solid throughout the season. I don't expect to get more than a couple years out of it safely, but for now it's a nice little spot to hunt.

Dry box for storage, also a bow holder (not shown) -

The view of where I shot my first doe, just to the left of that cluster of trees -

I have not built a seat yet, so I use a folding stool or lawn chair -

This pic was taken before I spray painted:

I won't hunt from them ever again. Luckily I was wearing my harness...

Be careful and good luck hunting this season.

I must still be too young and bold to see why the stand is risky. I also only weigh 130 so it doesn't take much to support me. The stand feels pretty solid. Might not be a bad idea to strap a harness up there... Lol

JayP, did you have one break under you? Was it a flaw in construction, or was the wood rotten?

130 lbs? I weighed that at birth! lol I too am done with wooden stands. $100 for a decent ladder stand is money well spent in my book.

How far up there is that thing?

Catman, how high up us that?

I will give you a stand if you promise to replace that death trap with what I give you. I am being serious, you are going to get hurt.

lol ... No kidding.
I know your proud of it catman but I agree with these other guys. Don't take a chance in that. When I was young I built a couple that were a little prettier than yours and I still didn't feel comfortable in them. I'm with richman. I had an older summit viper that the needs new cables and maybe a little work that I would be willing to give you. I haven't used it in 8 years or more and I just bought the new viper.
