I bought one back in the late 80s, only thing wrong was a small "S" shaped spring inside of it broke, other than that it was a good little gun.

I also had a Thopson center hawkens that I never could get to shoot, it was all over the place no matter what bullet or powder combo I tried, but my traditions hawkens shot great, even with round balls you coule stack'em in ther.

my dads got an old charles daly hawkens style. i believe he told me bought it in 1980. hes killed many deer with it. I remember when he first started back hunting when we moved to tn it was with that. He always let me skip school and sit with him on opening day of mz when it opened on monday ever year. One morning we were sitting there and he was looking at me and messing with me and a big ol buck stepped out at about 75yds and was walking away from him. I bout crapped my pants me being about 10 yrs old and seeing that deer. He never got a shot at it because it was only good to about 50 yards. I remember watching that deer walk around the bend of the woods on an adjacent property and "BOOM". Never seen that deer again $\:D$
