Thinking of taking the girlfriend up there Tuesday morning. Would it be a bad idea as I hear the crowd is a mess during October. Hopefully it won't be a big issue.

Also, could anyone recommend places to stay that aren't too far or too expensive?

Thanks.

We'll be there Monday morning. Hoping it isn't too crowed.

Was there with the family last week and it wasn't bad at all. We made 2 trips to the cove and made 2 loops each time. Took us about 3 hours both days for the 2 loops. That is good time considering it took us 4 hours to make one loop a few years ago. Thursday was much worse than Tuesday, but still no where near crowded. Go and enjoy it, you won't be sorry.

I went this afternoon and it took right at two hours to make the loop. We were there probably at the busiest time though.

The leaves ain't in full swing yet..but the leaf goers will be starting to hit it hard if they aren't already. I doubt you'll find anywhere cheap to stay up there close by...this is one of their busy seasons with the fall festivals and leaves turning. This is my wife and I's anniversary week and we had the bright idea to go rent a cabin up there one year...wrong thing to do. Cheapest we found was $130 a night and a minimum of 3 nights stay. You can stay in that same place in the off season for about $70-80 a night..no minimum of days. The Cove is a great place to go...most of the people up there visiting don't know how to spot anything. They get excited over a squirrel crossing the road and chase after it with cameras and 40x telephoto lenses \:\) Go slow and keep an eye out and you'll spot things they drive by and never see. Plus, a lot of people wont even go til mid day or early evening. If you want to see a lot of critters...go early morning or late evening. Last time we were there, we saw about 8 bear and lost count on deer; but two bachelor groups of bucks and one group that had a dandy 8 and 10 pointer in it.
