I don't think the "Youth" part make a difference, but I tried to mount a Bushnell Spartsman 40mm scope on a 700 today and it's just too low. The front of the scope is on the barrel and the bolt handle hits the back of the scope. .

The scope mounts I picked up were from Bass Pro. Is there something particular I need to look for when I take these back tomorrow?

Thanks!

The next height size up from the ones you bought, if the scope was just barely touching.

I have a 700 youth with a 50mm scope on it. The youth has a shorter stock and barrel, but the rings are not different. I used Leupold High rings. If you can't get a 40mm, you must have a set of low rings. You should be able to mount a 44m with medium unless it has the adjustable objective lens. What kind of rings are you taking back?

The scope does have an adjustable objective lens.

The ones I bought yesterday were Traditions brand and say they are 1" medium rings. (A791DS is the part number)

1" is the tube size, which is right for your scope. Trade them in for a set of high rings. With the AO, you're probably pushing 50mm.

Just bought one of those rifles myself. Do yourself a big favor and go with the Talley Lightweights. I got mine at Sportsmans Warehouse in Southhaven, but Bass Pro might have them.

I swapped them for a set over/unders and it works fine now. You can still just barely see the rear sight because the front of the scope is so big, but it will work just fine.

All you need to do is get a set of "high" rings and there won't be anymore issue.
