I just moved to TN a few months ago. (By the way, this is an outstanding forum. I've been hunting for a long time, but learn something new each time I visit.) Although I will have the good fortune to hunt my wife's family farm in the midwest this year, that's only 4-5 days. My TN hunting will likely be focused entirely on Yanahli WMA. I have been able to scout it some (pre-archery), but not a lot. Cheek Bend (sounds like that's where the 'orange army' will encamp come Nov. 3.) I prefer to use my climber, but didn't see too many good trees, if any, where I scouted. Having hunted public land in other states before, I plan to walk far to areas I've noted on topos and arials. Since it will be my first hunt on Yanahli, I was thinking instead of arriving at my intended location the usual hour before shooting light that I would arrive 11am-ish as the 'change over' is occurring, but I don't want to encroach on anyone, etc. What do you think?

Sorry that my question isn't of much help to others, but any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

You are correct about the "orange army". As soon as muzzle loader opens people get plumb ingnert. Bow season is as about as calm as i have seen it in quite some time. Good luck and be safe.

Thanks. Sounds like 0 dark 30 and hope to find a good tree after a long hike in the moon light is my best bet. Not sure why, but I feel safer hunting from a tree on relatively flat land like Yanahli. Not sure that it makes any difference, but I obviously see much better.

No need to not hunt the morning, jut hunt all day, that's the key to see the deer move

The dog training has been getting a little outa hand the last couple of mornings I went. Luckily they haven't spoiled my hunt yet.I saw a basket rack 6 point Sunday A.M. he didn't seem to mind all the barking in the distance..neither did the doe only 20 minutes behind him. The horseback riders seem to be holding off riding til most of the hunters are gone. That will last until thanksgiving then the silly arses show up in numbers without a dang stitch of orange on. Be careful if you hunt near the riding trails during that time...they are supposed to be wearing orange but you know how that goes.
Oh...welcome to TN. \:\)

I was at cheeks bend a couple weeks ago. I picked a random spot not far off one of the main trails. Loaded with hickory, oak and maple. Sat on my chair on the ground for a while, late afternoon as the sun was going down. I must have been moving my head too much because I suddenly heard blowing behind me and never saw what I spooked, they ran off into thicker woods. You could fit a climber in there easy and during bow season there are a few but not many hunters there. I just stay away from there period during gun season. Was the first place I ever took a gun in the woods for deer (2010) and I saw em at dusk in a back field that day, but I prefer to avoid the crowd.
