Abbeville AL. Our property and my first hunt I got to shoot. It was dog season. Gun was an old Winchester Pump 16g. Long story short 12 yr old boy and 00 buck ended with me missing and on my tail. Dad killed "MY" deer. Nice 8pt.

I wish I could remember. I thiink it was a dove hunt right behind the house in LA. My first deer hunt was in the Catahoula Swamp in souoth central LA. Dogs of course. I killed a deer there the next year, might have been two years later. I think I was 12.

Constipation has ruined many a good day. Not as many as stupidity, though.

Hawkins County bowhunt about 37 years ago. I was 15 and using a 35lb pull recurve. I remember just walking in with my Dad and not having a clue about anything. He left me in an area and I spotted a treestand of 2x4s on public land. I climbed in it and spent the day. Ate all 4 samiches Mom made. Saw a doe with arrow stuck in hip and I told everybody I didn't want to shoot one that was already wounded.

First hunt was squirrel and dad had to prop behind me so the gun wouldn't knock me down. Deer was in Giles County. Missed a doe 7 times with a 30-30. She was way out there and my grandad kept telling me to hold higher over her back everytime. I was laying on my stomach and he would only let me load one shell at a time. That was 22 years ago and the property is still my favorite to hunt.

My old farm house growing up was in a holler with the woods coming right down to our yard. I grew up running around and hunting in those mountains of West Virginia so picking a "first" hunt would be like picking a first breath or something.

Having said that, my grandfather would come to WV and pick me up and take me to Jamestown, TN where I would spend my summers and some of the falls. Saw my first flying squirrel there back behind the football field in those woods back in the 60's!

First squirrel hunt that I can remember was by Big Sandy, TN when I when I was 8. I went on other trips as a tag-along with my dad, but I didn't carry a weapon and couldn't tell you where.

I used a single-shot .410 and killed 6 squirrels on my first trip in about 45 minutes. I thought "this must be the most fun thing in the world - it's so easy!". I haven't had a trip with such a high rate of kill ever since, LOL.

First deer trip was on a friend's farm in Benton County. It was bitter cold on the youth hunt, and I was wearing so many clothes I could barely walk properly. Dad bought me an insulated cushion to sit on beneath a tree on the side of a ridge. I couldn't bend my knees because of all the clothes, so I plopped down from a standing position. The seat exploded, and blew about 10,000 tiny styrofoam balls all over the side of the hill.

We didn't see any deer during the hunt (surprise!) until we got back to the truck, and one was running past the hood of the truck as well walked back. Deer were mythical creatures to me back then, and it was exciting to know that there were at least deer on the farm where we were hunting.
I'm hungry and tired. Don't poke my belly.
