After deer season I am interested in clearing some land for a food plot. I have about a 1/2 acre that is already cleared that I have planted before. I would like to open another acre or so. The land was logged about 6 or 7 years ago. It is thick as hair on a dogs back now. Mainly briars and saplings about 6 ft. tall. My question is what steps would you take in doing this right. My biggest problem is money and equipment. Bobcat of Knoxville hopefully has the right attachment for the job. So, if this was your land and your project. What would you do from the last day or deer season until leaves begin changing next fall. I do not plan on planting this spring.... Thanks for the help. Just trying to do what I can with what I have.

Ive cleared all of mine from forest with a D6 dozer because thats what I had in there at the time making roads and during logging. That was a very good operator used to making food plots and preserving top soil though, I wouldnt use a dozer with someone that isnt very skilled. I would go with a trackhoe if just clearing and not doing road work. A small dozer and a trackhoe in combo would be ideal. Yes thats expensive though, but thats pretty much part of it, I paid 100 an hour for the D6. Bobcat might a shredder mulcher attachment that is nice but it wont take up or take out stumps. Im sure a bobcat would handle your small saplings and briars but leftover stumps from logging might be your problem. Hard to see without seeing the area, but I do know that to much equipment is alot better than not enough.

If you have the time to do it yourself, I use a brush grubber I ordered from Amazon and it will rip trees up to 4" in diameter out no problem with a small tractor. 1" and under I just bushog.

If you have old stumps a dozier may handle it, but track hoe is best, I've got 8 acres of new plots planted that was in mature
hardwoods the first of Aug. Now 3 fields of wheat with clover coming up

clearing very small stuff,without taking out the dirt,is very hard,track hoe best bet.A" bush Hog" type attachment will just leave you with a lot of mulch type stuff.
