Have we talked about this and I missed it?

http://bigbuckproject.org/about/

Questions I have:

1. What is wrong with these people?

2. What is the AL DNR's stance on this? It appears to be perfectly legal, but what are the DNR biologists opinions on this matter?

3. What is the general opinion of the AL hunting community?

4. What happens if that is a massively negative impact on the health of the deer herd years down the road? Since the release is legal, will the founders face liability?

5. Has anyone seen the following movies: Resident Evil, The Island of Dr. Moraeu, The Boys from Brazil, Gattaca or read the books: Leviathan (a group known as the Darwinists use genetically engineered animals as weapons), Beggars in Spain, Battletech or The Neanderthal Parallex (depicts a eugenic society that has benefitted immensely from the sterilization of dangerous criminals as well as preventing the 5% least intelligent from procreating for ten generations.) ? Because, this experiment could easily serve as a plot kickstarter or subplot for most any of these films or books.

Those deer are not wild and will be easy to kill. They will not last long in Alabama

Saw that on the QDMA forum. The QDMA put out their stance of being heavily against this to the people involved.

I have a hard time believing that is true and that the DNR would really do that. I do not think it would work anyways, the deer would probably get killed quick and their offspring yearling bucks would get killed quick too.

The DNR is not doing it. A privately funded company, The Tutt Land Company, is doing it.

If you listen to the radio interview, the guy talks about how QDMA association criticized the project. He likens it to a Civil War mentality of states' rights. Basically, "A bunch of yankees sticking their noses where it don't belong." This guy doesn't necessarily come across as the sharpest stick in the woods, but you know the old saying.... "Everythings' legal in Alabama"

I do hope these guys fail miserably.

Hmm, Poser, that is not exactly what I heard. From what I can gather, this guy wants to import some deer and QDMA is opposed to it, as they should be. That is about all I got from that interview.

I know it islegal to have omported penned deer in AL but I didn't know you could release them into the wild.

I said "Basically" that was what he was saying/implying. I wasn't quoting him.

The tutt land company is in the business of leasing and selling hunting land. I am willing to bet they want to release these deer on the lands that they own, then charge a mega premium for hunting rights on the land they release the deer on. One step closer to making hunting impossible for all but the wealthiest individuals. I guarantee they will kick anyone that kills one of these deer off the land.

I find it hard to believe it is legal for a private citizen to stock deer on private property in Alabama.

Mark my words.....marketing to trophy hunters will be the ruination of deer hunting in North America. There are those out there that are trying their best to push us toward a European model of game management. When that happens, the vast majority of us will not be able to do anything other than sit on the sidelines and watch others enjoy what we were once able to do. If we are lucky, we may be able to get a venison meatloaf at the local homeless shelter.
