I'm new to this but really like this sight. I got a question for y'all what is the best broad head. I shoot 1.5 three blade rage and hate them. Shot 2 deer this past weekend the 1st one I shot only one blade opened the next was a complete pass through shot and only 2 opened any suggestions?

If all the blades aren't opening, I would try a different head. I have used all different varieties. 3 blade fixed muzzys. Rage 2 blade. NAP Spitfire. NAP Killzone. Ramcat 3 blade fixed. Cabelas 3blade fixed. None have ever failed me. I have failed me but not the heads. I have not tried the 3 blade mechanicals though.
Did you recover the deer?

Recovered the one yesterday but not the 1st one and trust me I'm not one to leave one laying in the woods. That's why I wanted some suggestions wondering if they have failed anybody else.

I switched to trophy ridge hammerheads a couple of seasons ago. Best thing i ever did. Haven't lost a deer since. Just be ready to change out the blades after every shot. Blades are cheap though .

A mechanical broadhead is mechanical. There is moving parts on them and they are more prone to not functioning properly. Get a good fixed blade head such as a Magnus stinger, or muzzy or something and u can quit worrying about broadhead performance, and worry more about your shot placement. JMO

BINGO.....we have a winner!!!!! If you remove everything that has a moving part, then you greatly reduce THAT chance that something WILL happen. It is not if any mechanical will fail...it is when will it fail—as you have unfortunately discovered. The above heads are proven killers, but I will highly recommend the G5 Strikers or Slick Tricks—two other well proven broadheads. The G5's and Slick Tricks are a little more forgiving on errant tuning issues and will fly closer, or the same, as field points.

The problem is, he has two shots where blades did not open. Obviously almost any head does a good job when the blades open.
I killed three deer and turkey with the same Killzone. Worked just as designed every time.

More than likely your problem with the rage heads are the blades not being securely in place. If the blades are lose on the rage then they will not deploy the way they are intended.
Jamming them into your quiver is the easiest way to break their hold. It may look like their in place but they are barely hanging on. When you shoot your bow the loose blades fall open and your basically left with a limp broad head.
An easy fix is to take very light thread and wrap as firmly as you can without cutting the thread around the rear blades. 3-4 wraps should do. Then lightly tie a small knot and cut excess tag end from knot. The razor sharp blades will easily cut the thread on impact and the thread is so light that it will not disrupt accuracy. You will then get the same results as others with the giant entry wounds.
I personally use Epek broad heads. Same devastation as Rage but better design and fail safe system on blades opening. I have used rage on many deer and 85% of those deer were ripped wide open. The other 15% I encountered the loose blades as well as the shoulder shot (no penetration with rage). I do like that Rage came out with the chisel points to help with the shoulder penetration issues.
Check out Epek broad heads. They really make a tremendous entry wound and fly extremely accurate.

Thanks for all the advice what got me is that I had two back to back do pretty much the same two well placed shots I will think I will try the two blade rage I've heard alot of good things about them. Atleast I will have better odds with two machanical parts rather than three. Thanks for all the info. Maybe I can kill some deer and post some pics thanks again everybody.

Heck, I love Rage heads. I have literally shot dozens of deer with the 2" 2 blade version and have never had a head fail. On well placed shots, they will leave a blood trail that looks like you hit the animal with an axe. On poor shots, you will often do more damage than with many other heads. The only place I would rate them a little behind a thunderhead or muzzy would be on the shoulder. Fixed heads are tough to beat on a shoulder shot. But that being said, I have still recovered every single deer I have shot in the shoulder with a Rage and several of those have blown through the deer and literally dropped the deer in 30 yards or less. On some shoulder shots, penetration has been an issue, but the internal damage is usually tremendous.
No head is perfect and they all have their pros and cons, but until I find something that I like better, I am shooting Rage 2 blades.

I use the 2blade 2" rage with the chisel head. I shot a doe today in the head above the ear and the arrow busted through the skull and came out of the neck on the other side. By far the wickest kill ever. Brain matter everywhere. Point, 2" whole in the head. WoW. The shock collars rage makes helps to ensure the broadhead opens. First year using rage and I am a huge fan. Btw Muzzy and rage are owned by the same company FYI. I know this I am a fan.

I am using the Rage 2" 2-blade this year for the first time. Two shots and two kills. I almost feel sorry for the deer. They ain't got a chance. I never got this kind of blood trail with my Muzzy 125's.

I have found that people say the broad head didn't open but I have found it to be inaccurate. A lot of BH's retract to original position once its passed thru a deer.

Well when your good your good.
Robin-hooded (adjective). To literally shoot that good.
truth: lucky shot it was directly under my stand and I had to go vertical to shoot and I was aiming for center mast but it clearly hit her in the head. Nevertheless it was devistating and simply put amazing how the rage destroyed her.
