Daddy came by while ago with his newest rifle,,Sako L461 single shot solid bottom action, heavy barrel, with a super nice oil finished stock with a pretty good beavertail forend ,,had a two stage trigger that after the takeup breaks really clean maybe 1 1/2 pounds probably less,,
he had the 40x45 Leupold scope in the Sako mounts and I wish I would have had my camera,,really really nice rifle.

he had some ammo made from Lapua 220 Russian brass loaded with 68 gr Berger bullets and H335 powder,,I shot a couple 3 shot groups getting a feel for the trigger and adjusting the scope,,I swear I think the three shot groups will measure in the .1`s and after I got a zero I shot two five shot groups well under .250,,

top to bottom front to back maybe the nicest rifle I ever shot,,seems to be extreme accurate as well.

sieral number started with an A and was numbered less than 400,is there any way to date when this rifle would have been made??
I know they dont make the L461 action now.

Sako serial numbers are sovereign the place.. No realists either. There is a Sako collectors association and they can get you generally within a few years from the list that was Forde by purchased dates.

however, it was more than likely made in the 70's. Before the change of the L actions to AVAV actions

Is there an importer on the underside of the barrel? (internaltional firearms, Garcia,Stoeger)?

I will ask about the importer,,,,it is mint 100% rifle though ,I bet a custom rifle built to this rifles specs would cost a person some serious change,,

Its the most accurate factory rifle made. They also made them in 22PPC.

I have shot several 40X that would give it a run but none that would beat it hands down,,I am still studying the trigger,,I am not sure if I like it or not,,but it is very slick,,

I heard that they only chambered the 6mm PPC in `77 and `78 due to a lawsuit over the PPC name and changed to 6mm PPC-USA in later models,,

I would like to confirm this

I think you may be right. I almost bought a new one in the late 80's. At that time I think it was a PCC USA and cost around $900. I ended up having Kelbly Rifles make me a custom 6mm284.
