I have always used grunt calls and the can. There are a lot of combination calls on the market now, such as grunt, snort-wheeze, doe bleat, etc. Do any of you have any thoughts on such calls for Middle Tennessee deer?

Pretty sure Middle Tennessee deer respond to the same calls as west and east TN deer do. I use a basic grunt tube and a doe bleat call. I use them sparingly and softly. I think that just like turkey calling, you can call too loud and too much.

During the fall, in some cases, you can call loud and often to re-group those hen flocks.

I have been considering getting a bleat can myself. I hear about people using them and having a doe come running in. might have to give it a try, but I don't usually bring a deer call in the woods. Might bring a grunt during the rut, if i need to call attention to a buck that is walking away or something, but other than that, a deer call is not usually on my list of things to bring in the woods.

I'd no more leave my grunter at home than I would my rifle. I've turned and called in alot of bucks...even blind calling. I also mix in doe estrous bleats in the time frame of the rut. I will say this...I've had great success at it but seldom early in the season during archery.

I have had success calling deer in with grunt call, can call and rattling bag. Just remember - blind calling and calling when you see them are two different art forms. Each one has ways to do them right and do them wrong.

I use the electronic one that sounds like a corn feeder going off. It works for me in east, middle, and west Tennessee.

I've used numerous grunts over the years but I found one about 9 years ago that I have steadily used...mostly, because I'm pretty good with it and they respond. Sorta like playing a guitar, gotta find one that's easiest and most successful for you. Those chords and notes need to sound like you want them to sound or you won't be happy with it. Sometimes that takes awhile but maybe not.

I use rattling antlers certain times of the year also and again, I had to find ones that I could make 'say' what I wanted them to say.

I don't use a can or deer bleat very much at all..or any of those buck roar things mostly because I never heard a buck roar..

Also, I use the same grunt and rattle horns in Michigan and Tennessee...works both places. So in this case calls do not need to be state specific.
