I have a rem 700 in 300 win mag. If you are just hunting whitetail in TN where most shots are well under 100 yds, I would say use whatever you can find that is cheapest. It does not take much for a 300 to take down a whitetail. As long as you can keep it in a 2 inch group at 100yds benched, its good enough. If you plan on hunting something thick skinned or going to take a 300 yd shot, you might consider going with a more expensive premium bullet and spending more time at the range. I reload factory seconds nosler partition 180s using rl22 for a around 70 cents a round not counting the cost of brass which I have tons laying around. Those will punch thru the shoulder of anything in North America.

Federal PowerShok at Wal-mart stores that carry federal. $17.97 a box at the ones around here. Only a few of the stores around carry Federal.
