It miet be a hard question for trad purist but does anyone shoot the new fangled mechanical broadheads from their recurve or long bow ??

I'm not so much a purist so I dont see why not, if it offers an atvantage why not, never tried them tho but plan on it.

I dont see what you would gain from a mechanical broadhead , only what you would loose. It takes energy to open the blades of a mechanical, it also takes speed. A piston driven one would be the only one i would even try, and I still would prefer a fixed blade cut on contact broadhead that is razer sharp. That is another reason. I have never found a truly razer sharp Mechanical head, and If a broadhead will not shave, I will not shoot it. I am by no means a purist here, just my 2cents, and its prob worth less then that hahaha.

I've always used a fixed 2 blade broadhead, but have to say I'm kinda eyeball'n the mechanicals but them not opening does concern me, seems ya hear a lot about it no matter who manufactured it.

I guess it would all depend on if your bow has enough horsepower to push a wide mechanical through a deer. I shoot 145 grain snuffers with 75 grain steel adapters and 225 grain Muzzy Phantoms and have no problem with pass throughs. Then again, I am pulling 66 pound bow and would still be hesitant to shoot a mechanical head with trad equipment.

My brother and my friends are loving the new Kill Zones by NAP. However, they all shoot compounds. Upon seeing the results of these broadheads, I want some, but I am not sure how they will handle from a long bow. I don't think I have enough speed or power to use them effectively. I am pulling back about 55lbs. Any thoughts?

I think (but not an educated guess) they should be fine, to reach the vitals the arrow only has to penatrate probably 8-10 inches, even recurves & long bows are perfectly capable of pass thru shots at killing range.

Thanks Fox Fire. Has anyone ever used a mechanical broadhead with a traditional bow?
