I gotta head to bed because of work tomorrow morning.

Will post the story / pics some time tomorrow, probably afternoon.

Short story, found the doe, ran out of time to look for fawn. I doubt the fawn would have been anywhere near the doe, because it ran in almost the opposite direction (but both deer were facing broadside to the right in the same spot when I shot them)

If I didn't have work in the morning I might go look for it, but I guess them coyotes will have to eat some. I feel bad but learned something - should have stopped the deer before shooting. I thought it had stopped, but my best guess is that it took another step forward right when I shot. Funny I couldn't tell if it was moving when I shot but I watched the arrow drill through the middle of the deer.

Will get story up tomorrow most likely. Tagged and got the deer home, and cut all the hams, shoulders, straps and tenderloins in about an hour and a half. Barely room in the fridge for them. Might let them sit a day or two or might transfer to a cooler of ice to age them for 2 or 3 days. Gonna be eating good soon!

Okay. Just me but...

#1- I probably would call in sick and go look.
#2-Being a fawn, real good chance it did not go far.
#3- "...but I guess them coyotes will have have to eat..." is not something I would have said or thouoght until I had done a whole lot of looking.
#4- Really doubt the deer walking was the problem.

But that is just me and the way I think.

I think it was the deer walking that caused the bad shot. I could have pulled, but I think I saw the deer step forward. But yeah I should have looked more than I did, but couldn't call in sick... Now that I think of it, it wouldn't have hurt to take an extra 15 mins to scour the area I heard the fawn run off, when I was hauling the doe out. Oh well, next time I hope it turns out better.

Don't worry about it, you did good!

Just be more patient with your shot and tracking next time.

thanks master chief, I definitey learned something and will do things a bit differently next time. I will say the heat of the moment causes you to shoot more instinctively than the slower approach to target shooting. Just a couple hours before I shot the deer, I was in my backyard and shot at 10 and 20 yards, and both were perfect kills. But when those deer stepped out I just kind of let er fly. If I had said a simple "mehh" to stop the fawn, I bet it would have been a double lung shot.

And ya... camo is overrated. Blue jeans and t-shirt with no hat is what i do and I've haven't been busted in my stand in 6 years lol. Only by scent have I been busted.

LOL- If you are hunting mature deer bucks or does and it is late in the season, camo is not too overrated.

Sure, I hunt a lot in shorts and a T-shirt and I kill a lot of deer. But even in shorts and a T-shirt, I wear a face mask and gloves. And once it gets cool and the leaves start to fall, I tend to wear camo. It is easy to fool the early season, dumb deer. Little different story once they have a scare or two.
