I seldom do, never did with a compound. I always had a sling on my bows and do on my crossbow. Only use rope on a couple stands that are hard to climb because of limbs near the ladder.

I use a rope for my bow but use a sling on my guns. Never had 550 paracord break. Some has been on the same tree for over 10 yrs.

I like your bow / gun holder modification. May even try that on one of my stands as well. I currently use rope on every ascent up a tree. I also use rope for my own safety along with other ropes for hauling my equipment onto the stands. Once in the stand, I use custom equipment hooks (6" bolts) for holding my bow or even a rifle. I have trusted my life to rope many times and have no doubts about their worthiness.

I think your idea is good ...but I would not climb a tree with an arrow knocked. I have never had any trouble with my rope ..heck it tells me how high I am in the dark morning and I can pull it up when I get ready to.

I climbed up my homemade stand today with the bow in one hand... Not the norm, I usually use a rope. I was there just to clear some shooting lanes, and brought the bow just in case. Ended up taking a doe home, a reminder to never go in the woods without your weapon during deer season. It was cool because she was feeding on the fresh cut privet from clearing the lanes, not 20 minutes after we got done cutting.

Rope may be old school but it is a lot safer. I seldom use a rope but I also think about what would happen if I fell and hit with the crossbow or rifle under me.

I guess that is possible, not probable...you could fall off of your stand onto your rope tied bow just as easily I would think..
