1st game of the 2012 playoffs starts at 4 today!

Cant wait to get home, get a shower and pop a top on a cold one and get ready for the game.

Go Braves!! Hope Medlen can get his 23rd win in a row and take us all the way this year.

If Braves make it to the WS my neighbor is getting me tickets

Im with ya brother. I teach and I am not going to lie I wore my bright yellow (custom) braves jersey to teach in today at school. Some loved it and cardinal fans booed me. I am getting buffalo wild wings to go and will plant my behind on the couch to hopefully see a braves W. My in laws are from St.Louis originally and huge Cardinals fans so it will be pretty nice if we can get the W!

Huge redbird fan here, have been for 36yrs. Only thing i will hate after the cards win is sending chipper home for good, never liked the braves but always respected chipper.

It actually was a judgement call on the umps part so thats never gonna get reversed. All the umps agreed with call, it actually was a correct call by the rules. He just made the infield fly call late. Anyway thats not the deciding factor of the game. The braves errors and the cards taking advantage was the deciding factor.

The Braves did cost themselves that game, but the bad call could have had an impact on a comeback, we'll never know. However, that was not a correct call by the rules.

Just the fact that it was over the limit of being within the infield makes it a bad call.

That's what they were saying on ESPN, it was 225 feet out. They said in the last three seasons, the infield fly rule hadn't been used past 175.

Too many errors and men left on base though.

MLB is just like the NFL, they're going to agree with the refs/umps when it's "subjective"...

it sucks for the braves but the umpires were well within the rules, bad timing, but they didnt make a bad call. just think if the cards had turned that into a double play without the infield fly rule??? sometimes a series of unfortunate events turns out badly. the braves did get a few brakes themselves tho....nice broken bat single Chipper.

Too far out for them to make a doubleplay. Its a rule to keep the offense protected from an intentional drop to make a DP. The problem was the fact that the ump should have immediately called it so the baserunners could have reacted in time. He did not do that. It should be reversed.

either one of those players could have made that play if there wasnt a miscommunication. a double play was unlikely but what turned out to happen was unlikely also. sometimes poo poo happens and there just isnt anything that can prevent it. im a reds fan so im just waiting to see what poo poo happens to them. joe torre isnt reversing anything, hes a politician now. baseball will never take the next step to greatness until bud selig is gone.

They did make a bad call as it was not inside the infield area.

The ball CAN be outside of the infield areabut the infielder must be camped under the ball and the infield fly must be called at its highest point. Neither happened in this instance. Ump pointed up just as the ball was hitting the ground.

Braves should have put themselves in a position so that a questionable call wouldn't have had an impact on the game. If they were 10 runs ahead no one would be talking about this.

Refs don't lose games, teams do.

Rule 2.00 (Infield Fly) Comment: On the infield fly rule the umpire is to rule whether the ball could ordinarily have been handled by an infielder â?? not by some arbitrary limitation such as the grass, or the base lines. The umpire must rule also that a ball is an infield fly, even if handled by an outfielder, if, in the umpire's judgment, the ball could have been as easily handled by an infielder.

umpires didn't cost Braves the game, but they blew this call.

i have umped many ballgames and there is no rule in baseball that is more misused than the infield fly rule. Everyone knows why the rule is in place, to prevent an easy out of a lead runner if the fielder decides to let the ball drop, which could lead to a double or triple play even. In other words, the rule is to protect the team that is batting, not the team in the field. The trouble with the rule is the word “easily.”

Essentially the rule states that an infield fly will be called if an infielder can “easily” field the fly. Obviously, easy is in the eye of the beholder, such that if a determination is made that the infielder can “easily” field the fly, that determination cannot be undone by anyone. What this umpire failed to pay attention to was mother spirit of the rule. There was no advantage to be had by the team in the field to drop the ball. Zero advantage gained.

I'm not prepared to say that there are boundaries to the rule and I'm not prepared to say that what one shortstop can easily field is the same as what another can easily field, but an umpire must consider the potential for advantage as well when determining whether the rule is in effect.
