after some researching on the internet, I found a common denominator was that the CVA wolf was an excellent value gun, and a good choice for someone just getting into ML'ers.
So I purchased a .50 CVA wolf, blued with camo stock today.
I purchased some 50 grain powder pellets, and some 240 grain sabots.
I put 2 pellets in, ( 100 grains ) and pushed in a bullet and bang. =) The smoke the thing makes is awesome. lol,
NOW that my over zealousness to shoot the new gun is overwith, is there anything i NEED to know about muzzle loaders that may differ from a standard cartridge gun? This is my first muzzle loader, and I just wanted to make sure i'm doing things properly.
I cleaned it all up and put it back in the box. it'll stay there until i hear back from you boys with experience. =)

Make sure you take your breech plug out now and put some anti-seeze on it. Clean it after every shooting session, and depending on your gun you will probably need to dry swab the barrel between shots.

I will put power belts up against any other bullet on the market for dead deers, wanna be prostaffers thinks high shoulder shots are whats made them great lol, regular powerbelts not not made to bust heavy bone.I was taught to shoot heart lung shots.dont know where the new age hunters learned all their deer killing skills jmo, find what bullet shoots good in your rifle & then shoot the deer where you will run it out of air or blood.enjoy your new rifle before somebody tells you you made a mistake buying it lol

Never put it away after a hunt and tell yourself you'll clean it tomorrow. Clean it the day you use it. Black powder residue causes problems fast.

I leave mine loaded all season unless I hunt in a lot of rain.some folks think a bullet needs to be able to hit any bone in a deer & pass thru,a regular powerbelt under 300 wont do that most of the time.I only take shots at heart/lungs & have dropped well over 20 deer with no lost or tracking jobs over 50y.I really have enjoyed the muzzle loading season over the years as I have the chance to take a doe as well as a buck, its a lot easier to fill a frezzer in e tn as the #s are fairly low compared to other parts of the state.hope you have a great season

I shoot 245 gr. Powerbelts and have never had a tracking job further than 50 yds. I also was taught to aim for the heart and lungs.

Ok I went to sight the gun in, and I want it set for 50 yards. (iron sights) and I don't shoot much further that anywho. The thing shoots a mile high. Literally 3 and a half feet when I got it. after moving the sight all the way down it still shoots a foot and 4"high. So I turned the rear sight around and got it even lower with the sight hanging off the slide. So now its 8" high, the iron sights completely bottomed out and then some.
What do I do next?
New sights? (I want iron sights) is the gun barrel not straight? How do I tell? I had 1 and 1/4 inch groups at fifty with iron sights

i ended up cutting a mello yello bottle up and using the plastic to raise the front sight 0.027" to make up for the difference, shoots pretty good now, and Got a good 5 shot group at fifty, and took a stab at 100 and hit the target. so i'm pretty happy with that.
