Used the Cabelas Hawken .50cal and shot the Custom Cast 343 grain conicals with 80gr Pyrodex P into Moist sand at 50 yards. Almost complete penetration of the 10 gallon sand bucket I use.
Who says you need a Hollow Point or Wide Metplate " Nose of bullet" to get amazing bullet expansion?!
335 grains Recovered Weight!

Looks so sexy in this picture LOL

Those look a little over-expanded to me. They look like Powerbelts they way they have expanded. You need a good solid shank at the base. You may want to try a harder mixture of lead or maybe not driving them so fast.

dry sand normally turns bullets into this shape. The weight retention alone tells you that its holding up perfect. You should see the sand on a 370gr maxiball, they turn inside out. Round balls do the same.
Once I get the perfect load I will pull out the good stuff.

Cool. Hoping to take my first deer killed with my own custom cast bullets this year.

I shoot 235 grain lead round balls in my 54 caliber flintlock. It kills deer about as dead as they can get. That's a pretty good looking bullet. I suspect it will do the same.
