I read a bunch of posts about broadheads and gear.
I enjoy reading about other hunters experiences, good or bad. I think maybe some of the best lessons are from our bad stories.

I have not used, and don't have friends who have used ALL of the equipment on the market today. But I do have friends and aquaintences who between all of us, have used MANY of the heads and gear.

ANY good, sharp, well placed head, even a sharp rock, can kill a deer quickly. And ALL of these same heads, even a Rage 2 inch cut placed through both lungs, can be a non recoverable deer.

I have seen several examples on both "sides of the fence".

So at the end of the day, I only want to ask myself one question.

"Have I done all I can do to prepare myself and my equipment to prevent needless suffering of the animal I am hunting"?

Have I practiced, shot enough to tone up muscles and gear and made sure I have prepared that gear for the moment of truth?

And if the answer is yes to those questions, then I am ready.

Everything else is just bowhunting or gun hunting.

Let's face it, some of us, no matter HOW MUCH we have prepared, are going to lose a deer this year. EVEN the gun hunters will do this.

So as the season progresses, good luck to you all. And keep practicing. Maybe it won't be you.

May all your blood trails be short and RED!!!

I still use the old thunderheads. Bought them at end of season sale and they work great. For me, the question is how straight will the arrow fly with the broadhead. I only practice shooting with old thunderhead broadheads. I started killing more deer when I started washing all my hunting clothes in odor killing soap and taking a shower likewise every time before I go into the woods. I put my boots on as I get out of the truck. Also, I pull some fresh hickory leaves and put them in a big plastic garbage bag with my hunting clothes and boots a few days before the season starts. Hickory is a good strong odor in the woods. For anyone not use to taking deer with a bow, take a doe to get the feel of drawing down on and shooting a deer under real conditions. I'm not a great hunter, but I occasionaly take a deer.

I would feel confident with any of the broadheads on the market now. The driving factor for me is price and reliability. With that being said, I have a variety. I have some Magnus Stingers, Thunderheads, Slick Tricks,Muzzy's and a Pack of Rage. I have gone many years only shooting Thunderheads with very good results. Over the last few years I have started experimenting with others and the only complaint I have is that the rage requires a little more attention because of the blades coming out from under the 0-rings from time to time. But I would not boast their killing power over any of the others.

Good post 102. And I think its just a personal prefernce in what you like with broadheads. Just like the car you drive or food you eat.
