City limits?

Is it legal to bow hunt on commercial property in city limits. If so is there a certain distance you have to stay away from other properties including houses? I have a spot in the middle of Clarksville (around an acre) behind a buddy's business that deer use a lot. Just wondering.

There is not a TWRA law/regulation that addresses this issue.
There is a state AG's opinion and some case law that says the TWRA laws opening up seasons trumps city and county ordinaces against hunting. However, the practical side of this is that if you get convicted in city or county court, you MAY prevail if you appeal your conviction to higher courts.
The only distance requirement is that if the hunter is on PUBLIC LANDS AND WATERS, they must be at least 100 yds from a visible dwelling house.
THERE ARE NO DISTANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR PRIVATE TO PRIVATE LANDS.

If you only have one acre to hunt, you better make sure you have the neighbor's permission to track deer on their property.

If you only have one acre to hunt, you better make sure you have the neighbor's permission to track deer on their property.
Yes I know. That would be the only thing to make me hesitant about going (besides being legal) This place is in the hood. I would feel funny tracking blood down the road and having to knock on someone's door to ask if they could stop their pit bull from eating my deer that decided to die in their back yard.

All the practical and legal issues aside... I believe hunters have a responsibility to avoid potential clashes with non-hunters.
Don't misunderstand me... I'm not saying we should hide or be ashamed of what we do... but I don't believe we should "flaunt" it either.
We've had a number of incidents in Chattanooga where hunters, who were well within their legal rights, were hunting and shooting in relative close proximity to public hiking/biking trails or other "non-consumptive" recreational areas. Some of those incidents turned into court battles, some did not.
But ALL became issues in the media and among an overwhelming majority of non-hunters, in such situations it will usually be hunters who end up with the black eye.
Do us all a service and let that one acre spot be a "deer refuge."
