You guessed it -- Bill Dance. The story was in today's Commercial Appeal. He caught it in the Mississippi River. Wish I had his skill and luck.

Probably out of one of his many ponds he fishes that has us thinking it is a lake on T.V.

It was on the MS river. As for his many ponds he fish... It makes for better TV, with less boat traffic, and easier to film.
Dont understand why so many folks hate on Bill

I used to love Bill Dance when he filmed his shows at Sardis, Tunica, Reelfoot, Horseshoe, etc. Watching him catch 5 pounder after 5 pounder at his private lake full of fish that never see an artificial lure doesn't interest me.

No matter if Mr. Bill catches them on a big lake or a private lake. A fish is a fish, a bass is bass! They will do the same thing no matter what water they live in. Yeah they maybe bigger in a pound where they can grow. But his methods will catch fish anywhere! I travel alot fishing bass tournament and do well and the number one question is how do you learn all these different lakes. I just remind people how small a bass's brian is and how they dont changed the way they live.

His methods will catch fish anywhere but everyone that has ever fished a private lake where the fish never see an artificial lure know they are a whole lot easier to catch than lakes that receive a ton of pressure. I don't care how small his "brian" is, fish get educated in highly pressured public water. Watching him catch 5 pounders on every cast in a lake that a 10 year old could do the same doesn't impress me.

I travel alot fishing bass tournament and do well and the number one question is how do you learn all these different lakes. I just remind people how small a bass's brian is and how they dont changed the way they live. Ha ha! Thats not true! If that was the case, no one will catch fish that has already been caught. Fish dont get educated? How many times is a fish caught more then once? Look at the tournament fishing world. You can prefish and then catch fish the next day in a tournament. On the same bait. The same fish! Plus on big lakes, there are alot more fish that dont even see a bait. I will end with this, keep in this mind. First how many times do you think Mr. Bill has caught the same fish in his own private lake? Its alot more than any fish being caught in a big lake. That right there tells you they dont get educated. Bass are opportunist and preditors. They react or they eat. If they were any more educated, then they would know the bait was fake. How many baits look like nothing that is in nature, but yet catches fish all day long!? Second, As far as catching 5 pounders every cast thats bc he bass are more healthy and can live longer in those conditions. But for u to say catching 5 pounders dont impress you? That actually is very impressive to make sure his private lake is healthy enough to produce such fish. Last, the way he catches bass will be the same anywhere. I mean he is still one of the greatest tournament fisherman of all time. He made his career fishing bass tournaments. You can learn alot from his techniques. I think people get to caught up in the fish itself. He nor has any company ever said that there bait or technique will catch BIGGER fish? That is something people tell themselves, which would be incorrect. You cant make a bait that only catches big fish. You can go after bigger fish, maybe with bigger baits. But just bc Mr. Bill catches a 5 pounder in his pond, doesnt mean u will on his lake. But it does mean it will catch bass! His methods will catch fish anywhere but everyone that has ever fished a private lake where the fish never see an artificial lure know they are a whole lot easier to catch than lakes that receive a ton of pressure. I said they get educated, not become rocket scientist. I didn't say they would never be caught again. I said it's not as easy. If it was Bill would still be doing shows at public lakes. You have obviously never fished a private lake that the owner micro manages and barely lets anyone fish. Those bass will hit anything you throw in the water and you can catch one on every cast. You telling me that's not easier than Sardis where the fish get hammered every day?

His private lake gets fished all the time! It takes about 5 fishing trips for one show. A lot of editing. And as far as educating, no they don't educate. They react and eat. You may catch more fish on a private lake then on a public lake. Bc the fish to acreage ratio. But you still catch the fish the same way. The public lake fish will have to eat the same amount as a private lake. And yes I do fish private lakes and spend a lot of time stocking em. A bass is a bass! No matter where?

And o I want to add that Mr. Bill doesn't do shows on public lakes bc of the sho itself. No boat traffic, people, etc. You think people would leave him alone if they saw him fishing. Look at his saltwater show. There in the ocean. All public waters. You say he only catch fish bc he fishes private lakes. When in fact he can catch them anywhere at anytime. And this all I'm going to say on this topic. Good day.

Bill Dance is first a great person, and secondly he is an exceptional fisherman. This man has devoted his life to fishing, so yes he could teach me, you and 99% of us how to fish different scenarios, but then there is a few that knows more than anyone else. The reason I speak this about Bill, is my Stepson has a guide service and he had been fishing with Bill Dance all during the time leading up to him catching the 110 pounder. You can get on Bill Dance web site and you will see that he gives cudo's to George Young. On the 83 pound fish that Bill caught was on my Stepson's boat, which I have photos of.

I would like to add that my 12 yo granddaughter caught a 16 pounder, and my 21 yo grandson caught a 24 pounder the same day as Bill caught his 83 pounder. Pround of my kids and grandkids love of the outdoors, my Stepson George is a fine ambassador of the hunting and fishing life.

You say he only catch fish bc he fishes private lakes.
I would like for you to show me where I said this because I never did. In fact, this is what I said:
His methods will catch fish anywhere
I suspect you are having trouble with my posts because your reading comprehension level matches your understanding of basic grammar. Case in point, it's hard to take someone seriously that doesn't know the difference in there, their, and they're. That is a fifth grade skill.
The only thing I stated was watching "Mr. Bill" catch 5 pounder after 5 pounder from the same stocked pond doesn't interest me. He is a great guy and a great fisherman. He can catch fish anywhere and take me to school while doing it. But, catching fish in that pond doesn't take great skill. I have fished similar private lakes.
As far as fish getting educated and learning to recognize lures they see repeatedly, there is a ton of results from research you could read, but I'm not sure your reading comprehension level is high enough.

Good Lord, Ladies, Bill D. is a great steward for the sport, and I can remember watching his shows long before the crap that goes for fishing shows now. I pray at 71 I can be doing what he is, please resume the B&M section at your discretion

When someone misquotes me, puts words in my mouth that I never said, and tries to say I'm wrong when the facts and science are on my side, I take that as a personal attack. It's common in the tournament fishing world though. Someone fishes a few tournaments and becomes an expert on everything.
And, for the record, it's "grammar".

Spell check doesn't know whether you mean there, their or they're. Some things adults should know. After Tndeer adds spell check they should give classes on the proper use of the quote function. That way you would stop putting your comments under my tab.

Wow! I DID NOT mean to offend you! I was just trying to share some facts, opinions, whatever you want to call it. As far as my grammer, i was typing from a smart phone. The best i can do. There are not the easiest to use. I have a college degree and do not worry about correcting grammer on a hunting forum. I spent too many years worrying about that. Im sorry if it was taking out context. Good day!

I just have fond memories of Bill Dance when I was a young man and when he was first getting started. His show came on the TV real late at night, after Monday Night Football I think. I would stay up late (unknown to my parents) to watch him. Back then he did fish the large lakes in the Mid-South - Sardis, Lakeview, Tunica, Pickwick because my dad and I would fish them on the weekends and I recognized some of the spots I had seen on his TV show. We even saw him on Picwick one day. As far as his fishing ponds he owns or manages, in my opinion the man has paid his dues and like others have said he has been a great ambassador for the sport and a great rep for the state of Tennessee.

I don't care if he caught that in a pond stocked with fish, when they get that big the level of difficulty catching them goes up. This is a beautiful fish and something anybody would be proud of, even Bill Dance who is a legend in his own right. Now I think that the childish attacks on one another are ridiculous and don't belong at TNdeer. Let's leave the grade school games where they belong and that is in grade school.

Good on ya Mr. Dance! Anyone who is a steward to the outdoors like Bill has been for as long as I can remember is a huge plus to all of us that fish and hunt. I only wish my skills and personality were that which would allow me to have made a career of a love for something like his abilities have.
