I assume it's for a 30 caliber. IMO the 150 or 165 gr. interlock is a better choice for Whitetail size critters. The 180 would be my choice for Bears, Moose, Elk, etc.
I'm sure the 180 would be fine for deer, just wouldn't be my first choice.

I handload the 150 gr hornady interlock in my .270 and most people would say that bullet is a little heavy for the .270 but I tried the 130 gr and the 150 gr. knock them down for the count. Very accurate too.

Hornady interlocks are a very good standard bullet. 180 Gr is a bit heavy for our deer.

Fairchaser: Try the 140 gr they shoot as flat as the 130 and hit harder.

I have tried the 140's Big Jim, but they still don't have the knock down like the 150's. I do give up a little on the down range ballistics however. But, most of my TN hunting is close range anyway. I do have my gun doped out to 600 yards just in case. \:\)

I haven't messed with reloading in my 270 yet, would you care to let me in on a pet load on your 270 and the 150 gr. Interlok

I don't load the 150's as they are a bit on the heavy side for .270. 56.5 gr of RL 22 and the Hornandy 140 BTSP, CCI LR primers, and neck sized brass will print dime size grops in all of the 270's I load for.

This recipe has taken well over 20 deer at ranges as close as 50 yds and out to 400 or so. All bang flops.

Choice of the 150 gr pills are probably a result of poor bullet performance on close up shots in .270 with the 130 gr and 140 gr bullets. I Can't say that I have had similiar bullet "blow ups" with Hornady, but 130 Gr Corlockts have given poor results in up close scenarios. Too much velocity for the bullet construction.

I chose the 140's because it is the best compromise in my hunting scenario where a shot between 25 - 400 is likely depending on the stand. The 150's give too much up for me in trajectory and demeans the .270's capability of shooting string flat.

FWIW: The Hornady standard interlock factory loads show that the 140's beat the 150's in velocity and energy at every range.

But like fairchaser, if your shots are going to be 100yds or less, than heavy for caliber 150's are good insurance against poor bullet performance. Or you could use the Interbond instead.
