Ok, I've heard different theories on seasoning.... I only shoot 10 or 15 shots per year, so my experience is very limited... To season or not to season? What about Stainless steel?

Personally, I have always used regular bore cleaners then apply a thin coat of Rem-Oil.....

Some tell me that I am screwing up, others say it dont matter since I aint cooking with a cast iron skillet.....

There have never been issues witm my guns, That I know of anyway...

Honestly if it's stainless I wouldn't go through the trouble of trying to season it. JMO.

Don't worry about it.

That seasoning thing is from back in the days of black powder, iron barrels, and animal fat lubes and preservatives.

Hit it with a little JB's Bore Bright and you should be good. Abrasive stuff so be careful and use it only when you feel you need a deep clean.

'Seasoning' is the act of sealing up the pores in Iron with a fat or natural oil based lubricant by repeated heating & cooling. Exactly as you would season a cast iron skillet.

Modern steel & Stainless steels don't have pores.

The whole seasoning a barrel thing is a holdover from many, many years ago when barrels were manufactured from soft iron. Unfortunately, TC perpetuated this idea when they first introduced Bore Butter & gave instructions on the pack for seasoning a barrel. Since then, the idea simply won't die.

As with all rifle barrels, there is a break in period & it will get more accurate the more you shoot it (Especially if you actually work up a load, rather than just dropping in 2 or 3 pellets) as the rifling smooths out & all the machining marks get worn out.
