Last Friday me and a friend fished the tailwater below Cordell Hull in his boat. We put between 15-20 rockfish in the boat and kept one for eating purposes. They were all small (3-7 lbs) but were a ton of fun to catch. Was thinking about going back on Friday if I didn't hunt but heard the tailwater was closed up by the dam. Didn't believe it so I called the resources office at Cordell Hull and sure enough, the tailwater is closed to all boat traffic from the right side ramp up to the dam. They are blasting on the cliffs there and this is apparently the reason. The lady I spoke to said they were meeting about the closure today but didn't know how long it would be effective.

1oz. jig heads with soft plastic chartreuse body like a swimmin fluke. Pull up to dam in boat and let current from generation carry the boat down river and cast upriver and get your jig to the bottom as fast as possible. Let it just tick tick tick along the bottome and thats where they are. You will get hung on the bottom but with a little practice you can keep it right at the bottom without getting hung too often. Dont know when they will open the water back up but I plan on getting back out there when they do. Oh yea, it helps if you have a tiller handle motor. It helps keep the boat in the right position.

the one time I was at the dam, I watched 2 old timers in a boat similar to mine (with the same motor even) and they went up beside one of the gates that was open and threw their lures into the white water, hooked a striper or two that got off. I saw one of them swim by my boat, maybe a 5 pounder or so, but it got off. I then proceeded to fish the same way with a magnum super fluke with no luck. So I caught skipjack instead. haven't been there since, Old Hickory is a bit closer.
