I have seen threads on air rifles lately and it got me to thinking. I know all the reasons this sounds silly but this is a LEGAL question, Can you take an air rifle in the deer woods with you along WITH your deer rifle. Just thought on some of those boring days when there are squirrels aggravating everything you could pop a few while waiting on a big ole buck to come by????

Good question. Ill add this one.
Can you tote an air rifle AND your bow during archery season? (realistically who wants to carry that much crap but its an academic question)
Can a mod move this thread to the TWRA forum?

can I add to the question, can you bring an air rifle when bow hunting archery season? Always see plenty of squirrels while deer hunting.
edit - just saw I repeated fishboy's post

There is some significant gray area. There is the technical part that it puts you in violation of legal equipment for archery deer hunting. The use during the muzzleloader and gun season was made legal this year. From discussions in that work group it is my memory that it was not legal during archery and we wanted it to remain illegal. But, I also know the main thought process revolved around the rimfire weapons and not air weapons.
It is not something that I would be comfortable doing without discussing it with the local officer where I planned to hunt for their interpretation, as IMO there is room for interpretation on this one.
I've made a note and we will clear it up one way or another for 2013.

thanks for the answer SCN. I will keep my air rifle at home for archery season but might have to bring it during ML or whenever quail season opens. Not only are there squirrels but also quail in one of my spots. I can shoot them on the ground with an air rifle should they show up near my stand again.

Interesting because of all the hoopla about folks killing pigs with head shots at 4,000 yards or there-abouts with a pellet rifle.
THAT is the problem; manufacturers are building weapons quite suitable for poaching. So, whereas a pink red ryder might not raise an eyebrow, a 1250 FPS silenced air rifle with a package of those pellets could have ya paying a hefty fine.
