Here's an idea, if we can keep it going through out the season: Whenever you hunt, take a picture of the view from your tree or ground setup and post it up here. This is more of a aesthetic comparison then anything else, but if you would like, include a brief description of why you chose that particular spot on that particular day.

It will be interesting to see the different terrain, thickness, fields, food plots and simultaneous weather conditions that members hunt in across the state. If you would like, tell us what county or at least designate East, Middle or West TN.

I could post pics right now of the stand loc's I'll be in. I'm usually in the same loc's year after year, with the exception of placing a new stand after finding a new travel route or new sign.

Here was my view this morning. I haven't had trail cam pictures of any of these deer. They make 13 bucks I've had pictures of this year. The down side is 2 of my bigger bucks have been off cam for a week now. The shift is upon us...

What are your thoughts on not seeing a certain buck on camera for a few weeks? Do you still fell confident in seeing him while in the woods?

Oh yeah, last year it was not uncommon for a mature deer to disappear for as much as 10 days and come back around. I've still got high hopes, however the biggest deer I'm hunting now left in mid October and didn't come back til late January last year. I haven't gotten a picture of him since Sept. 1 (opening day) before daylight. They're smart critters.

Bump.
Sorry Poser, can't seem to remember to take my camera with me. I'm going to rest my stands for a day or so. I'll try to remember the camera next time. ;\)
Interesting thread though, nice seeing what other areas look like and what others are hunting over.
Wish I had the camera with me this evening, saw a big ole nanny with triplet fawns heading to one of my salt licks. I've seen triplet fawns before but not on my farm.

Stand is facing east. Views are from S, SE, NE, and N. Last pic shows how still I am when I'm hunting.

Saw a nice 8 point tip across the beautifully manicured lawns you see in picture #1 right at daylight Sunday morning at 344 yds.

it's thick in here. It's not public land that I often hunt so I built a tree stand and will be cutting some shooting lanes. But for this morning there are a few open pockets I can shoot through. Shots will be close as I would prefer.

Wed 10-3-12 This is a stand at the dead end of a really old, overgrown logging road. It dead ends into a slough that the deer use a beddings area. Tons of buck sign here the last two years, but it was pretty quiet today. I did see a doe come in at last light, but her angle was too quartering. Oddly enough, she was heading into the slough at dark instead of out of it as one would expect.

700 yards behind my house. Little clearing in the woods 60 yds north of a corn field. 100 yards east of soybeans. Bedding area just beyond the clearing. Saw 3 opening morning but was only offered a quartering toward shot on the biggest doe. Let the little ones walk, too. T

Right in the middle, you can see a trail cam still hanging that I forgot to pull. It is 25 yards from the stand. The deer were 15 feet to the left of the camera.

Saturday 10-6-12. My first repeat of the season As I hunted this stand last weekend on a midday hunt. This time, it was a cold, wet and windy morning. No sightings so I'm ditching this setup:

For the afternoon, I shifted over to a nice, open hardwood draw in the middle of a sea of thick, sweet gum. Lots of mast here and even 2 fresh scrapes, which is the earliest I have ever seen scrapes in West TN. I sat from 1:30 until dark, through 3 thunderstorms and shifting winds. No sightings, but may hunt this during the midday tomorrow - left some steps in place for a quick setup.

Got caught snoozing this morning. -was setup next to a big White Oak and a persimmon tree that was dropping. The area is very thick. At 8:30ish, I dozed off for a second and woke up to realize that there was deer in my shooting lane. While I was shifting around my tree to get a shot, the doe stood just beyond that log in pic 1 for a minute at ~24 yards. I drew back and waited, but she was quartering away just enough to pass on the shot.

MUP,

Ya'll are considerably further ahead of West TN in terms of leaves changing and coming down.

Yea, but going in last eve was fantastic. After the rain, even tho there were tons of leaves on the ground, I slipped in very quietly. But alas, I still am not seeing any deer in this spot, where the trespassers rolled thru. \:\/

Base of a subtle hill with a faint, old road coming down a hill from a pine thicket. Couple of scrapes along the way. Perpendicular, is a trail that runs the base of the hill. -saw 8 deer here this morning.

10-21-12. this is one of my favorite stands for bow hunting. there is a creek at the bottom and the lower half is to steep for anything to travel it. there is a bluff behind me. perfect funnel and if anything comes around this hill it has to pass within 30 yards of me.
[img][/img]
there are 2 spike bucks near the center of this pic, only one is standing in the clearing enough to make out. looks like it is far off but he is only 22 yards.

this next pic is right under me on a flat that runs around the hill and there are 2 does. 1 on the left and 1 towards the right.
[img][/img]
always see at least 5 or 6 every morning and have seen up to 15. there is a big bottom field that they feed in over night and oak trees around the hill from me. good place to get them as they go from one to the other.

Ha! Yeah. I couldn't get the hang-on any higher and I was at the bottom of a slope. When the deer came out mid-field or further north, I was about eye-level for them. When they came out further south on the field I couldn't be to close to the ground. My best bet was to go as high as I could then finish the job on my face that Realtree started on my clothes. Of course, coming from a line of special forces (a line I broke), I've had more than my fair share of days in the woods painting my face up with my dad and uncle (the only SF guys in my family I knew), while they hunted for whatever it was they were killing that day. Ha!

This is the view from one of my favorite stands. Its a ladder stand sitting in the middle of a land slide. They logged this area several years ago and the side of the mountain slid off. I can cover about 250 yards down the mountain and 150 yards up the mountain. You have to be on your toes all the time while hunting this stand, because a buck can get by quick. I have taken several good bucks from this stand.
