this occured this afternoon, 9/18/2012

guy kill limit of doves, he wants to keep hunting to see if he can "only" kill a "collared dove", I told him to sack his gun, its to close to call

will the hunter be legal if he continues to hunt, this particular field has plenty of collared does on occasion

It sounds like a really bad idea to me. The hunter could probably legally take a collared dove. But, if an officer observed him shoot into a flock of doves that were not readily identifiable as a collared, and then checked him with a limit, I suspect a citation would be issued. Then it would be a matter for the court to decide. If he is checked while still loaded up and hunting it becomes a judgement call for the officer on issuing a citation and again, a court matter.

In addition, the regulations state that if a dove is not readily identifiable as a collared dove that if will be included in the morning dove bag limit. If he kills one in that category then he is over his limit.

I think you told him right. I don't think I would want to take the risk.

Never seen a collar until this year, but noticed they are larger than the moning. The two I killed this year, I thought they were pigeons.

they are larger, lighter in color, and tail has a more distinct squareness to it
