I intend to hunt on some property I own this Fall. I am not a state resident yet, and currently live in Ohio. Will retire to Tennessee next summer but want to hunt some this fall. I plan on hunting using the guidance given about having leave paperwork on my person while hunting. My question regards how to get the tags I need, since I will not purchase a hunting license this fall.

As military hunting on leave, you do not need a tag for your first animal. You are required to check it in at a checking station or online. When you check it in, you will be issued a temporary tag for your next animal, and a permanent harvest tag for the carcass for processors or taxidermists. If you check in online, you must have printing capability.
If you want a tag, you can go to the TWRA website and pre-print both a temporary and permanent tag.
Thank you for your service!

I never noticed that you do not need a license if you are on leave I just assumed when I saw the on leave it was like the other states I have been in and meant you could be treated like a resident. If TN lets Military hunt without a license when they are on leave that is great. With all the benefits that they are losing from the federal govt it is nice knowing that some states still appreciate the service they do.
I know the amount you give up to protect us so I hope you have some fun while hunting down here.

You may want to check with SCN on this but if I remeber right from my military career (24 yrs) you could not be on a pass but must be on leave. Remeber to HAVE YOUR LEAVE PAPERS papers with you when you hunt.
