One of these days, I'll have to take some pictures of my oaks. Truly amazing. Three-feet thick, 100+' tall, and 60+ feet up before the first branch.

That's a beautiful tree right there. You can log all the trees you want but I would never want to see one that old get cut down...

That's a beautiful tree right there. You can log all the trees you want but I would never want to see one that old get cut down...
You would be surprised how fast oaks can grow. I've been ring-aging a lot of the timber I'm having cut, and most of the 24" diameter oaks are only 60-70 years old.

I've been ring-aging a lot of the timber I'm having cut, and most of the 24" diameter oaks are only 60-70 years old. that's interesting. Are they near creek bottoms or good soil? I imagine an oak on a rocky hill wouldn't grow as fast. I remember one time I cut down an oak that died in the back yard. It was somewhere around 8-10 inches in diameter but I counted over 40 rings if I remember correctly. Soil isn't bad here but it does get dry in the summer, no water source nearby.
