Anybody else been on Cherokee lately? I was on the lower end over the wknd and couldnt believe the damage. Rockfish and Hybrids literally laying all along the banks and floating numerously from pt 4 down. I also found about a dozen Walleye that I could identify, as well as a handful of Smallmouth and a few Largemouth.
I know there was a small sewage spill there previously but this seems to be an Oxygen problem. Im also being told by a local Biologist that only 5 to 7% of the fish that die actually float to the surface. If this is true, Cherokee has lost thousands of fish!! I also talked with a local Wildlife officer and he was trying to find more info on it. Interestingly the only write up I have found was from a chattanooga paper?? Long way from Bean Station!!

that sucks, hope Dale Hollow is ok too.... as far as a sewage spill goes, I have heard from several people over the years that some time before I started fishing the Harpeth River, there was a sewage spill that caused a huge algae bloom which destroyed the DO levels in the water and caused a huge fish kill. I don't know how that could happen to a large area of an impoundment unless it was a much bigger scale spill, but who knows. I hope they find the cause and the fish population makes a good comeback.

It's the DO level at Cherokee. Hope it gets the majority of the rockfish and hybrids. It happens every year about this time.

My buddy had a kill at their lake this year and lost over 10,000 fish including some wall hangers during the heaviest part of the drought. The dang thing about it was they have a spring feeding in and several active aerators and it still wasn't enough. sucks....
