I don't have a scientific answer... but its a skunk. I think that's pretty much what they do.

I may owe little brother an apology. When I went out a few hours later expecting to be knocked over (like before) no stink. He said that's how trappers do it.

Yeah, there's a difference between a skunk stinking, and a skunk spraying! Last one I live trapped got one in the head and he commenced reflexive squirting. Wasn't pretty.

I've shot a few with bow and never really sprayed, just always walk off abit then die, I've also caught some in live traps.. kinda cruel but put them in the sun they die pretty quickly.
