After I locate a good area a flock uses alot I just set up and whistle like a young turkey with my mouth.Sooner or later and its useally later a old hen will hear me and start answering. Useally she will bring the whole flock.

that will work but is a little slow paced for me..have you ever tried to locate said flock at flydown & call them to you straight off the roost? This is a tactic that i try every time i go hunting & then if they don't come in a cut the dog loose...scattering the flock is by far the best & most fun way to hunt fall turkeys...have you ever snuck in close & flushed them before setting up to call?

I will try my darndest to call a flock off the roost to me but if that dosnt work I just set up and whistle. I never have liked to scatter the flock, because when I scatter them they useally run off in the same direction dercreasing the effectivness. I am not saying it dosnt work cause I have killed birds that way before. But I would rather call an unsuspecting flock too me myself.

Yep, scattering the flock by ones self is tricky & if you don't get a good break then yes the birds will regroup without ever making a sound & are almost impossible to kill...thats where the dog comes in..the dog is much lower to the ground making them harder for the turkey to see & a dog can out run any turkey around..but i promise if you send a flock of turkeys in every direction you will experience one of the best hunts a hunter will ever encounter....
