I have a step son that is really getting into hunting. He is 12 and is trying to get his Hunter Safety Cert. The problem is this, his father gets him every other weekend, the classes are on consecutive weekends ! His father is not against hunting, he just wants to be "in control" and not take my step son to the class just to "show" us ! I have asked local TWRA Officers and have been told if his father will not take him after we take him the weekend before, that is not their problem ! Is there not any way we can get him through the course? This kid is just being used as a pawn! Thank you all for any help.

Have you tried the online course with a single field day instead of going over two weekends?

Unfortunately, this is a situation beyond the TWRA's control. All students are required to attend the training sessions in order to be certified.

One possible avenue is to have him take the online course. He will still have to attend a Field Day which is normally on the weekend. Hopefully the local Field Day will fall on the weekend you have control.

We have a couple of classes each year at our church and at a neighboring church that take place on evenings through the week from like 6-9 MTTF. Maybe there is a similar arrangement near there with some organization?

I understand your frustration I had the same type of issues with my ex-wife. It is amazing how us parents can let our selfishness get in the way of good parenting. \:\(

I just rec'd the free online course from twra for my boys. Due conflicting schedules i think this was the best option for my boys. You might want to check it out. From the day you order the cd it only takes a few days to get it.

Wow, his dad sounds like a real winner. I'd try the online route.

It is amazing how parents try to get back at their ex's with their kids. Sad. I'm glad that my parents never did that after their divorce.
