During the firearms deer season when the pistol would be a legal weapon I think it would be questionable.

During the firearms deer season when the pistol would be a legal weapon I think it would be questionable. Does this mean legal or not legal? Not used for hunting, personal protection(coyotes, mad dogs, meth cookers, etc.).

Protection from coyotes would be a stretch.
I wouldn't carry it. There are a couple of ways it could be viewed, and I wouldn't risk it myself.

Thanks, so the rules and laws do not specifically address it? You are right, nothing should be left open to interpretation, should be a clear rule(law) one way or the other.

Life would be simpler if every law was black and white, but unfortunately for both LE and the public most are open to some interpretation.
I think you would be OK during the archery and muzzleloader seasons since it is a totally illegal weapon during those seasons without the carry permit.
I would not have it loaded with buckshot or be in possession of buckshot during the G/M/A season because it could easily be interpreted as a legal weapon with illegal ammunition. I'd switch over to the .45 Long Colt during that season.
I think if you are observed shooting a coyote with it during the archery or muzzleloader season you are likely to get a chance to explain to a judge why you felt your life was in danger. Yes, it is disconcerting when they are around you howling at dusk, but attacks on humans are very, very rare.

Thanks, I know how rare attacks are, just using as an example, didn't know there was a season on coyotes, thought it was legal to shoot them year round with any weapon.

BTW, I don't even carry a Judge, was asking for clarification for a friend who carries one with a CP.

There is a year round season on coyotes. Weapons are restricted during the deer season.
The part that would make it illegal in the archery and muzzleloader season is that your pistol is an illegal hunting weapon and you can only have it with you due to a carry permit. It would be illegal to even be in possession of it without the carry permit.
It is 100% illegal for you to shoot any game, including finishing off a wounded animal, when carrying under the carry permit provision. Therefore, it would be illegal for you to shoot a coyote with it even though the season is open for coyotes.

It is also illegal to be in possession of the pistol during muzzleloader season without the carry permit.

Yeah, I know, had my permit for a long time. I carry when scouting some times, but I rarely carry when I have any other weapon.

There is no longer a barrel lenght requirement.
